There are no hard facts to explain the reasons for its design and construction in 1868, and for this reason numerous different legends have evolved around this very striking structure in the HEERKRETZ site.

High up on the battlements of the tower, which appears almost medieval, is a statue of the dog TIRUS or Ajax, which is responsible for the tower’s current popular designation. The name of our sparkling vintage blend is borrowed from one of the numerous legends and we ourselves spend many hours within view of this TIRUS throughout the seasons of the year.
